Nagamachi Yuzen-Kan 長町友禅館

Center for Kaga-yuzen, a high-quality method of silk dyeing

The Nagamachi Yuzen-Kan displays historical and modern works of Kaga-yuzen, a local style of silk dyeing dating to the seventeenth century. Kaga-yuzen is most commonly used to dye luxury kimono, but artisans have begun to use the craft to dye other items such as handkerchiefs and men’s shirts. Visitors can try dyeing their own pieces, wear authentic Kaga-yuzen kimono, and shop for Kaga-yuzen works.

The Nagamachi Yuzen-Kan is next to the Nagamachi district, a former samurai neighborhood that retains the atmosphere of the Edo period (1603–1867).
