Kita Residence (Hodatsushimizu) 喜多家(国指定重要文化財)
Well-preserved samurai mansion built by local administrators of the domain’s government
The Kita Residence is a well-preserved samurai mansion with 16 traditional-style rooms. The house’s grandeur reflects the wealth of the Kita family who inhabited it, including a raised room and separate entrance for the ruling lord on his occasional visits. A small museum next to the house displays Kita heirlooms, including samurai armor and painted screens.
The Kita family were local administrators for the government of the Kaga domain (present-day Ishikawa and its surroundings) during the early nineteenth century. At one point, they oversaw over 100 farming villages in the area.
