Kahoku Lagoon Sunflower Fields 河北潟干拓地ひまわり畑

Fields of over 350,000 sunflowers planted by local children

At the end of May each year, local children plant fields of sunflower seeds on a plot on reclaimed land in Kahoku Lagoon. The sunflowers reach full bloom from late July to early August, when the Sunflower Village opens to the public.

Over 350,000 sunflowers make up this spectacular display. The flowers also form a popular and challenging “sunflower maze” that stretches a kilometer in length. Sunflower Village is accessible by car or taxi.
