Sosogi Coast 曽々木海岸(波の花、垂水の滝)

Rugged coastal cliffs and unique rock formations

Sosogi Coast is a stretch of rugged cliffs on the northern shore of the Noto Peninsula. The cliffs run about two kilometers from Tarumi Falls, a long, thin waterfall that appears to flow backward on windy days. Water, wind, and rain have eroded the volcanic rocks along the coast into unique shapes and formations. One boulder, called Madoiwa (“window rock”), has a hole through its middle.

In winter, a natural phenomenon called nami no hana (“wave flowers”) creates otherworldly white foam on the shore.
