Katayamazu Onsen 片山津温泉
Hot spring village with a picturesque lakeside setting
The hot-spring village of Katayamazu Onsen sits on the shore of Lake Shibayama. The lakebed is the source of the naturally rejuvenating water that fills the town’s baths. Beyond hot-spring baths, visitors are drawn by the surface of Lake Shibayama, which appears to change color multiple times a day.
Katayamazu Onsen has several hot-spring inns and ryokan at varying prices. Daytrippers can enjoy the public Katayamazu Soyu bathhouse for a small fee. The contemporary facility was designed by architect Taniguchi Yoshio, who also redesigned New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
